East Bay Basketball Officials Association Announces 2010 College Scholarship Winners
Date: April 9, 2010
For Immediate Release …
The East Bay Basketball Officials Association (EBBOA) has sponsored a college scholarship awards program since 1999.
The EBBOA believes that high school athletics is a vital extension of the academic experience. In support of that belief, the EBBOA members voluntarily sponsor and support an annual College Scholarship Program to reward student-athletes who succeed in the classroom while balancing a commitment to their high school's basketball program.
Since its inception, the program has awarded $48,800 in scholarships including the current list of 2010 awards.
The EBBOA announces 16 awards for High School Seniors graduating in June 2010. The awards totaled $6,300 for 2010.
The first place award winners, each receiving a $1,000 award, are:
Deborah Gee – Alameda High, and
Kai Orans – Piedmont High
Additional 2010 award winners are: Tiffany Bennett-Thompson – Skyline; Alexandria Bridgett - McClymonds; Rosie Cubias – Salesian; Aminah Davis - St. Joseph Notre Dame; Kenneth Farr - Salesian; Connor Freeberg - Albany; Ruby Gorrostieta - Salesian; Ashley Heedley - Leadership Prep; Rexx Staten - Millennium; Ryan Staten – Millennium; Jonathan Tung – Piedmont; Taylor Vaughan - Salesian; Britney Walker-Ware – Alameda; and, Cynthia Wong - Chinese Christian.

The EBBOA College Scholarship Program is funded primarily through donations from the more than 140 referee members of EBBOA. Our officials choose to donate game fees from one, two or three games that they work throughout each season. One hundred percent of the donated funds are distributed in the form of scholarships to qualified applicants. The EBBOA covers all of the administrative expenses associated with running the program.
Individuals or corporations interested in donating to the program are welcome and encouraged to do so. If you are interested in becoming a donor, please contact Brian Hudes, Director of the EBBOA College Scholarship Program, at bhudes@ebboa.org or Steve Olsen at saolsen11@hotmail.com .
Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis. The EBBOA College Scholarship Program Selection Committee determines the amount of scholarships awarded each year based on the number of qualified applications received and the amount of funds donated.
